Valencia are disputing the fourth Champions League spot with Real Sociedad, and with two games to go the two teams are level on points. The Ches kicked off first though on Saturday with a 0-1 victory at Getafe which momentarily took them above their rivals in the table, albeit that the Basques regained the advantage later in the evening due to a favourable head-to-head record. Both sides had chances early on, Soldado and Fede Fernández both steering headers over the bar, and Pedro León turned a shot over the top a few minutes later. However with a minute to go to the break the visitors went ahead, Mathieu turning a shot past Moyà from the edge of the area after Banega passed to him following a set-piece free kick. Lafita did have a chance to level it after the restart, but after that Valverde's side were in control, and Soldado, Feghouli, Banega and Ricardo Costa could all have increased the lead later on.
