Málaga ended the day five points off the Champions League spots after they were beaten 1-0 by regional rivals Granada later on Saturday evening. The locals were looking to build on their win last week to take them away from the danger zone, and Brahimi and Ighalo brought early saves out of Willy Caballero. Brahimi and Nolito went close soon afterwards, and with just under half an hour on the clock Ighalo got ahead of Demichelis to poke Brahimi's cross wide of the keeper. The visitors responded with a Morales free kick which Roberto punched clear, and Isco and Sergio Sánchez went close either side of half time. Brahimi fired a shot just over the top though after the break, and substitute Aranda battled his way through before coming up against Caballero, and although Antunes hit the bar with a cross-come-shot late on, Lucas Alcaraz's side held on for a win which takes them four points clear of the bottom three.
