Bottom club Zaragoza are a step closer to the second division after they lost 0-2 to Betis in the Monday night game. With both sides needing points the match got off to a lively start, Roberto saving at point blank range from Jorge Molina and Dorado heading off the line from Luis García with the keeper beaten. Micael and Lafita also tried their luck, but with four minutes to go to the break Rubén Castro ran on to Paulao's lofted pass to curl a shot past the local keeper and give the visitors the lead. Zaragoza just about gave up after that, and Rubén Castro and Salva Sevilla both had shots blocked before Castro netted his second after Roberto could only push out an effort from Molina. With a quarter of the game still to go many disappointed fans left the Romareda stadium, and the only thing they missed was a shot against the bar from Sevilla late on. The Maños ended the day eleven points away from safety, and they need a near miracle if they are to stay up this year.
