Valencia lost ground on the leaders after a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Mallorca on Saturday evening. Chori Castro converted an early penalty after Webó fell under a challenge from Ricardo Costa, and then headed a second after Moyà could only push out a shot from Ratinho. Soldado got one back with a second penalty a few minutes before half time after Ratinho brought down Vicente just inside the area, but Castro almost completed his hat-trick when he shot wide just before the interval. Unai Emery brought on a second striker at the break, but apart from a shot by Vicente which Aouate pushed over the bar they hardly troubled a well organized defence throughout the second half.
