Bottom club Castellón are a step closer to relegation after a 0-0 draw against Gimnàstic in this week's Friday night game. The wet conditions didn't help, but the only real chances were a couple of efforts by the locals from David Silva and Ulloa either side of half time. Nàstic didn't have sight of goal until five minutes from the end when Fernando Morán tried his luck, and after Ulloa put another effort over the bar the referee called it a day. (07.05.10)
Real Sociedad stay at the top of the table after a 0-0 draw in their local derby at Real Unión, although they are now only three points clear of the two teams immediately below them. Local keeper Jauregui was the star of the match, in particular saving from Aranburu and Nsue before the break, but his opposite number Zubikarai also had some work to do at the other end.
Levante stay in second place after beating Recreativo 0-1, Rubén Suárez heading the only goal from Juanlu's cross on the half hour mark. Carmona came close to equalising when he hit the bar late on, and both sides ended with ten men after Barrales and Iborra were both sent off for second bookable offences.
Cartagena stay in third place after they came back from a goal down to win 2-1 against Numancia. Nano headed the visitors in to the lead soon after the break, but Toché scored twice in the last ten minutes, the first from Lafuente's assist and the second after Víctor set him up, to move nine points ahead of their opponents in the table.
Some bunching up further down the table as teams fight to move clear of the danger zone. Celta are now eight points clear of the bottom four after a 2-1 win over Girona. Michu put Eusebio's side ahead on the half hour mark, and Trashorras added a second with seven minutes to go. Peragón headed one back for the Catalans, but too late to change the result.
Rayo Vallecano are a point below the Galicians after a 4-1 victory over Huesca. Within six minutes Rubén Castro scored twice for the locals, and Jofre made it three before the break. Víctor Pérez scored for the visitors after the restart, but substitute Quero got a fourth for the Madrid based side just a minute after coming on.
Las Palmas notched up the result of the night though, beating Villarreal B 2-5 to stay a point behind Rayo in the table. Local keeper Juan Carlos was sent off for a foul on Javi Guerrero in the ninth minute, and Jorge opening the scoring for the Canary Islanders soon afterwards. Javi Guerrero and Rondón added two more before the break, and Guerrero made it four midway through the second half before Catalá scored for the locals. Sergio Suárez got a fifth, and Marco Rubén completed the scoring late on. (08.05.10)
Betis and Murcia are both further away from their respective objectives after they drew 1-1 on Sunday lunchtime. Juanlu put the Andalusians ahead in the twentieth minute after Pavone's shot came back off the post, but Capdevila took advantage of a bad clearance by Goitia to equalise after the break. The result leaves the locals six points off the promotion spots, and keeps the visitors a point above the drop zone pending the evening's games.
Murcia will end the weekend back in the bottom four though after Cádiz beat Elche 2-1 later in the day to move above them in the table. All the goals came after the break, Ogbeche giving the Andalusians the lead after Enrique set him up, and half time substitute Diego Tristán heading a second soon afterwards following a corner. Jesús Perera scored a late consolation for the visitors with a last minute free kick.
Salamanca drop further down in to the relegation spots though after a 2-1 defeat at Albacete. Stuani headed the opener for the locals following a corner, but before half time Salva Sevilla equalised from the penalty spot after Pereira fouled Despotovic. A draw seemed on the cards however until the third minute of injury time, when Antonio Hidalgo volleyed in the winner to take his side four points above their opponents in the table. (09.05.10)
Hércules are still very much in the running for promotion, and they stay within two points of the top three after a convincing 4-0 win over Córdoba in the Monday night game. Tote opened the scoring as early as the seventh minute, and Sendoa made it two with an angled shot a few minutes later. Soon after the restart Danciulescu headed the third from a corner, and the Romanian striker netted his second of the evening near the end after Raúl Navas saved a header from substitute Portillo.
