Cartagena are the surprise leaders of the second division after a 2-1 victory over Castellón on Saturday evening. All the goals came in the first ten minutes, with De Lucas opening the scoring with a long free kick which went past everyone early on, Dani Pendín equalising two minutes later with an acrobatic overhead kick, and Lafuente latching on to a loose ball to fire home the winner.
Numancia stay in second spot pending Sunday's games despite being held at home to a 1-1 draw by Murcia. Natalio put the visitors ahead, turning Capdevila's corner past Edu midway through the first half, but Iñigo saved a point for the Soría based side after connecting with Nano's pass two minutes after the restart.
Three teams are level with Numancia on points though, including Rayo Vallecano, who beat Real Unión 2-0. New signing Rubén Castro had a goal disallowed before he finally beat Jauregui from Michel's cross a few minutes in to the second half, and Aganzo got the second a few minutes after coming on.
Nàstic are also on seven points after they beat Huesca earlier in the evening, Roberto heading the only goal against his old side from José Marí's cross midway through the first half. And Córdoba are level with them after a 1-0 win over struggling Celta, Agus heading the winner from a first half corner.
The Galicians drop in to the bottom four together with Real Unión, Castellón and Elche, who threw away a one goal lead to lose 2-1 to neighbours Levante. Igor got the winner from the penalty spot near the end after Carleto handled thinking that the referee had awarded a foul. The Brazilian full back had opened the scoring himself from an early free kick before Javi Guerra showed good control to equalise. (19.09.09)
Betis are back up to second in the table after beating Albacete 1-3 on Sunday evening. Pavone set up Fernando Vega to open the scoring early on, and picked up an assist from Sergio García to score the second himself before the break. Stuani headed one back for the locals after the restart, but Pavone latched on to Nacho's pass to score his second of the match a few minutes later and wrap things up.
Recreativo are level with their neighbours though after they won 2-1 against Villarreal B. Carmona gave the Andalusians the lead midway through the second half, and although Marco Rubén headed the equaliser from a corner with seven minutes to go, Alvaro Antón struck the winner a minute later.
Las Palmas are up to fourth after a 0-1 victory at Salamanca, Cejudo netting the only goal after Javi Guerrero set him up with a quarter of an hour to go. It was Salamanca's first defeat of the season. Hércules are just a point behind the Canary Islanders after they beat Cádiz 1-0 earlier in the day, Farinós converting a penalty twenty minutes from the end after Casilla brought down Delibasic.
Real Sociedad drop further behind the leaders after they could only draw 2-2 with Girona, and they have now only won three home games out of the last fifteen. Kiko Ratón gave the Catalans a first half lead before Agirretxe connected with Xabi Prieto's cross to equalise early in the second half. And the home grown striker saved a point for his side with a second goal late on after Peragón had restored the lead for the visitors. (20.09.09)
