Espanyol ended the season with a 2-1 win over Osasuna which makes mathematically sure of another season in the top flight. Only a very unlikely set of circumstances would have involved them in the last day relegation struggle, but there were some doubts when Vadócz headed the visitors in to the lead after Dady headed on a long throw-in. Puñal could have scored a second and Azpilicueta saw his shot deflected by a defender on to the crossbar, but Josetxo had to clear from Osvaldo, and Roberto did well to tip an effort by Iván Alonso over the bar.
Two goals though in the first seven minutes of the second half turned the scoreline around, Forlín running in to equalise after Osvaldo headed back Verdú's cross, and Osvaldo picking up Verdú's pass and outstripping a couple of defenders before beating the keeper with an angled shot. Pochettino brought on Tamudo after that for what was surely his last performance in a "Periquito" shirt, and only some confident keeping by Roberto denied him a couple of times of a farewell goal. A festival atmosphere though after a first season at Cornellà, and both teams will be meeting here again next year.
