Any hope Deportivo had of a European spot was further dashed after they could only draw 0-0 at home to Almería, the Galicians ending the weekend in ninth place, five points adrift of Villarreal after a seventh game in a row without a win. Sergio brought a good save out of Diego Alves from an early free kick, but after that the visitors had the better chances. Aranzubia did well to keep out Uche and Piatti either side of half time, and Sergio headed off the line from M'bami with the keeper beaten. And with the game coming to a close, Uche missed the easiest of opportunities with the goal at his mercy. An occasion missed to ensure another season in the top flight, although Lillo's side are already relatively safe.
