Villarreal beat Atlético Madrid 2-1 on Saturday evening to move up to sixth pending Athletic Bilbao's game later in the weekend. Godín started things off following a corner midway through the first half, his acrobatic flick taking the ball wide of De Gea. Jurado bounced a long cross off the bar at the other end, but on the stroke of half time a comedy of errors by the visiting defence allowed Rossi to poke home the second. Diego López was called upon to save from Antonio López and Reyes after the restart, and Agüero got one back a few minutes later. But after Tiago fired a shot wide it was all over, and Atlético now have to concentrate on the two cup competitions they are still in if they are to qualify for Europe next season.
