Sevilla kept up the pressure on the top two with a 0-1 victory at Sporting Gijón in the last match on Sunday. Palop had to keep out Miguel early on, but soon afterwards Jesús Navas and Kanouté put together a quick passing move which the striker finished off to open the scoring. Navas had an effort cleared off the line by Gregory, and Zokora and Negredo both went close either side of half time as the Andalusians dominated the game. Sporting came close to saving a point though when Barral shot wide near the end.
