Sevilla beat Mallorca 2-0 in the opening game of the midweek round of matches, a result which took them above the Balearic Islanders to third in the table. The goals came early on, with Squillaci heading the first from close up after Escudé headed in a Renato corner, and Perotti also scoring with a header after Jesús Navas floated a cross in from the right.
Adriano and Squillaci could have increased the lead after the break, the former seeing his shot cleared off the line by Ramis and the latter having a header pushed clear by Lux, who had substituted the injured Aouate at the break. The visitors only came close in the final minutes when Keita wasted a couple of chances, and they drop out of the Champions League spots after their first defeat of the season.
