First division debutants Xerez appear to be out of their depth at this level, and they remain firmly anchored to the bottom of the table after losing 0-3 to Deportivo.
Juca got the first for the Galicians, beating Renan with a well struck free kick midway through the first half.
Aranzubia had to be at his best to push an effort from Bermejo on to the bar soon after the restart, but an inexplicable own goal from Gioda ended any hopes of a comeback. The central defender headed Sergio's corner in to his own net completely unmarked, and when Riki headed another corner past Renan it was all over.
It was a fourth defeat in a row for the Andalusians, and they have yet to score a single goal in the competition to date. Depor move up to seventh, a welcome win after losing at home to Espanyol at the weekend.
