Almería and Valladolid got their first points on the board after a 0-0 draw, a match which was conditioned by the rigorous sending off of Nivaldo with only twelve minutes on the clock by referee Mateu Lahoz. The Brazilian defender was sent for an early bath for a foul on Kalu Uche as he advanced on goal, the first red card of his career.
After that the visitors sat back to defend and get the best they could out of the situation. Soriano and Uche both failed to turn in Crusat's cross with the goal at their mercy early on, Uche hit the bar, and Valladolid keeper Jacobo did the rest. Almería were missing Negredo though, and they will be hoping that his replacement Goitom recovers from his injury as soon as possible.
