Xerez moved to the
top of the second division pending Salamanca's game on Sunday after beating
bottom club Sevilla Atlético 1-2. Mario Bermejo opened the
scoring with a low shot ten minutes before the break, and Momo got the second
four minutes later after Antoñito set him up. However young debutant
Hugo got one back for the home side on the hour mark following good work by
Cordero, and the visitors had to battle to prevent their regional neighbours
from getting back in the game later on.
Zaragoza are back up
to third after a 3-0 win over Eibar, just two points now behind the
leaders. Ewerthon started things off in the fourth minute, picking up a pass
from Oliveira and rounding Zigor to score. Oliveira hit the post before
Ewerthon scored his second of the evening, heading in a Jorge López
cross after the restart. And Ayala wrapped things up a few minutes later with a
header following Caffa's corner. The visitors had a chance to get one back when
Pulido was sent off for a second bookable offence after handling in the area,
but Yagüe missed the spot kick.
Hércules drop
out of the promotion spots after drawing 0-0 with Castellón, who
stay just a point behind them in the table. The visitors had the better chances
throughout, with local keeper Calatayud (currently the second division
"Zamora") his side's best player. Mario Rosas and N'Sue went close before the
break, and Arana and Ulloa both tried their luck after the restart. Tote and
Delibasic were starting to cause some problems though before Abel Aguilar was
sent off for a foul on Mario, and after that the home side settled for a point.
Tenerife are up to
seventh in the table after beating local rivals Las Palmas 0-1, the
first time they have won in the new Gran Canaria stadium. Alfaro ran on to long
clearance by keeper Aragoneses to score the only goal on the half hour mark,
although by then they could have been behind after referee Pino Zamorano
incorrectly ruled out astrike by Gerardo for offside. The locals came close to
equalising when Luna turned the ball against his own crossbar after the break,
but Nino wasted a couple of chances to increase the lead near the end.
Down in the lower reaches,
Murcia failed to climb out of the bottom four after they were held to a
1-1 draw by Gimnàstic. Jandro got on the end of Bauzá's
cross to give the visitors the lead midway through the first half, and local
coach Javier Clemente was whistled off at the break. Iván Alonso
equalised twenty minutes in to the second half with a long shot past keeper
Rubén Pérez, but even though Lolo Yedra was sent off for a second
bookable offence, Murcia couldn't get the winning goal.
Córdoba moved
away from the danger zone though after a 1-0 victory over Albacete, who
are now only a point above their opponents in the table. Both sides had chances
early on, with keepers Raúl Navas and Jonathan both in action. But
midway through the second half Iker Begoña deflected Rubén's
cross through his own net under pressure from Yordi, and that was how it
stayed. (22.11.08)
Xerez stay at the top of the
second division after last week's leaders Salamanca were beaten 3-1 by
Elche on Sunday evening. All the goals came after the restart,
Niño heading the first from Saúl's corner with just over an hour
gone, and David Fuster netting the second a few minutes later after Iván
Bolado set him up with "cow flick" pass. Both sides had a player sent off,
Bustos for a second bookable offence and Samuel with a straight red, and with
four minutes to go Quique Martín got one back from the penalty spot
after the ball hit Fernando Niño's hands from poinmt blank range.
Saúl putting the game beyond reach of the visitors though with a
spectacular shot near the end, and Elche move out of the relegation spots above
Eibar after six games without a defeat.
A win for Rayo
Vallecano against next to bottom club Alicante could have taken them
back up into the top three, but in the end they had to settle for sixth place
after they were held to a 0-0 draw in Madrid. The Madrid based side were unable
to break down a well organized defence, and the only chances in the first half
fell to Enguix and Aganzo late on. Aganzo and Peragón both had goals
ruled out by the referee after the break, but for the first time this season in
Vallecas there were no goals.
Real Sociedad are
only three points outside of the promotion spots after beating Huesca
1-0. It was not until twenty minutes from the end though that Castillo scored
the only goal with an impressive shot from outside of the area to give the
Basque side only their second win in ten games. The young full back had already
hit the post on the stroke of half time, but otherwise the visitors had had the
better chances, with Claudio Bravo called upon a number of times.
Celta are only a
point behind Real after coming from a goal down to beat Levante 1-3.
Geijo put the hosts ahead after Xisco Nadal set him up with just under a
quarter of an hour gone, but just two minutes later Fajardo equalised after
picking up a rebound in the area. And Dinei scored twice in the second half,
the first a header from an Oscar Díaz cross and the second on a quick
counter-attack, to extend his side's unbeaten record to ten matches. Levante
ended with ten men after Iborra was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Elsewhere
Alavés climbed away from the danger zone with a 1-0 victory over
Girona, a win at last after only picking up one point from their last
four games. Astudillo headed the only goal following Emilio Sánchez's
corner ten minutes before half time. But the Vitoria based side suffered after
that, Dorca and Jito in particular failing to convert chances for the Catalans
before referee Pérez Lima (who held up the game himself for six minutes
to be treated for a twisted ankle) called it a day. (23.11.08)
