With the top two spots decided, the fight is on for the two remaining Champions League places. Atlético Madrid took a big step towards a return to the competition after beating Valencia 1-0 in the last match of the weekend, the result taking them two points above their rivals up to fourth place.

Diego Forlán got the only goal from the penalty spot after César brought down Agüero on the half hour mark, and the visiting keeper prevented a bigger scoreline with a string of saves after that. His intervention may prove vital in the end, as Valencia therefore have the better head-to-head record against their opponents in the event of a tie on points at the end of the season.
