Málaga and Deportivo are both pushing for a place in the UEFA Cup next season, and the Andalusians stay a point ahead of their rivals after a 1-1 draw. The opening goal came on the half hour mark after the locals were awarded an indirect free kick when Aranzubia dropped the ball and picked it up again, referee Alvarez Izquierdo turning down his protests that he had been barged. Duda squared the ball across to Albert Luque, who fired a shot in to the net to open the scoring.
Only a near-miracle prevented Málaga from increasing the lead, Aranzubia pushing Duda's shot against the post and Filipe getting in the way of Salva's follow up on the line without knowing too much about it. But five minutes after the restart Depor were level, Sergio starting a move and heading Guardado's cross wide of Goitia.
Luque was in top form against his old club, and he hit the bar soon after the break. Substitute Riki had a goal disallowed at the other end by Alvarez for what he considered was a previous foul, and with ten minutes to go the referee further upset visiting coach Lotina when he awarded the locals a penalty after Manuel Pablo brought down Luque in an action which started outside of the area. Aranzubia produced an excellent save though from Apoño's spot kick, and point were shared.
