Villarreal are gradually running out of steam, and they could end the weekend outside the top four after losing 0-2 to Málaga on Saturday evening. Both sides had chances early on, with Adrián almost sneaking a shot past Diego López from a wide angle and Nihat bringing a good save out of Goitia. Eliseu fired a shot wide and Rossi had an effort blocked by the keeper, but with seven minutes to go Duda controlled a through ball from Apoño to round Gonzalo and fire in a shot which Diego López could only push on to the post and in to the net.

Pellegrini strengthened his attack with Guille Franco and Llorente soon after the restart, and Rossi went close a couple of times, a deflected shot which Goitia kept out and a header from Capdevila cross just wide of the mark. The coach suffered a nother injury blow when Marcos Senna limped off with all three changes made, and with four minutes to go Málaga made it two on a quick breakaway, Albert Luque running on to a long clearance and crossing in for Eliseu to wrap things up. The win takes the Andalusians up to sixth, now just two points behind their opponents.
