Deportivo were held to a 1-1 draw by Betis in the Riazor stadium, leaving the Galicians outside of the European places down in seventh spot. The visitors were desperately in need of points, and Oliveira came close to putting them ahead with a long shot which Aranzubia turned on to the post. The keeper caught the rebound though and immediately launched an attack, Riki picking up the ball and setting up Verdú to open the scoring from what appeared to be an offside position.

With just over half an hour gone Sergio García equalised though, running on to a clever pass from Emaná to whip a shot past the keeper. And after the break Oliveira could have won for the Andalusians, Aranzubia saving once again from Oliveira. It was all to much however for under pressure coach Paco Chaparro, who was sent off by the referee for protesting. The point was enough though to keep his side out of the bottom three, and it looks like he will be staying on for a bit longer at least.
