Sevilla bounced back from their midweek cup defeat in Bilbao with a 2-1 win over regional rivals Almería on Sunday evening. Kanouté opened the scoring in only the fifth minute after picking up a cross from Romaric, the referee turning down appeals for hands as the striker controlled the ball.

Kalu Uche and Renato both had efforts saved after the restart, but with just over an hour gone Renato made it two with more than a bit of good luck, the midfielder falling as he went to meet Kanouté's cross but managing to loop the ball past Diego Alves in to the net.

With twenty minutes to go Negredo got one back from the penalty spot after Renato tripped Piatti inside the area. But the locals held on to strengthen their hold on third spot and stay on track for a return to the Champions League next season.
