Valencia and Villarreal drew 3-3 in a thrilling local derby on Saturday evening, a result which left them third and sixth respectively in the table. Baraja headed Emery's side in to the lead after Joaquín crossed in following a short corner with only two minutes gone, and Villa made it two soon afterwards after running on to Albelda's pass to beat Godín and shoot inside the near post.

A few minutes later Renan tipped a chipped shot from Ibagaza on to the crossbar, and Gonzalo also hit the bar with a header from a corner. Llorente headed a good chance wide, but Silva hit the bar at the other end on a quick counter-attack. And Mata hit the post again before Fuentes pulled one back for the visitors, running in to head past the keeper after Godín headed on a corner on the stroke of half time.

Villa wasted a chance to increase the lead after the restart, but soon afterwards Llorente levelled the scores, beating Renan with a shot in off the bar after the keeper had saved his first effort. Just two minutes later Edu restored the lead, heading in Mata's cross for his first goal since joining the club. But a hotly disputed Rossi penalty after Joaquín pulled back Capdevila saved a point for the visitors.
