Numancia climbed out of the
relegation zone after a 2-1 victory over Almería, the first time that
the two clubs have met in the top flight. It was a blow for under pressure
visiting coach Gonzalo Arconada, who was returning to the ground where he won
promotion past season.
The locals hit the woodwork
twice in the opening minutes, a header from Sergio Ortega and a shot from
Pavón. But soon afterwards Solari converted a penalty at the other end
following a foul by Cisma on Carlos García.
Del Pino volleyed home the
equaliser though midway through the first half after the Diego Alves could only
push out Quero's cross, and Barkero, Goiria and Quero all went close for the
home side before the half time whistle.
Goiria got what was to prove
the winner in the sixth minute of the second half after Barkero put him
through, the referee turning down appeals for offside. Barkero was sent off a
few minutes later for a hard tackle on Juanma Ortíz, but after Piatti
fired a late shot wide, Numancia held on for what was an important win against
a team which could be a direct rival in the fight to avoid relegation.
