Athletic Bilbao climbed out of the bottom three after beating Numancia 2-0, the Soria based side replacing them in the relegation zone. The win takes some pressure off manager Joaquín Caparrós, who had been criticised in the local press during the week.

New Spanish international Fernando Llorente got both the goals before the break, the first a header from Susaeta's cross and the second a shot from the edge of the area after cutting past a couple of defenders.

Goiria headed just wide shortly before the interval, but Susaeta hit the bar a couple of minutes after the restart, and brought a good save out of Juan Pablo on the follow up.

The visiting keeper did well to stop a clever flick from Gabilondo later on, but his side hardly troubled his opposite number Iraizoz throughout the match, even when down to ten men after Etxeitia was sent off.
