The league of the big clubs
started this weekend, with the top five all due to play each other over the
next seven weeks. Sevilla and Valencia kicked things off on Saturday night, and
there was nothing to choose between them as the game ended without goals.
The first chances fell to
the locals, Duscher bringing a save out of Renan and then firing a dipping shot
over the bar. Mata replied with a good run which ended with a shot just wide of
the post, but Luis Fabiano curled a free kick over the bar, and Renan did well
to keep out a Kanouté overhead kick and another effort from Luis Fabiano
which took a tricky deflection off Albiol.
Luis Fabiano and Adriano
both failed to find the target after the restart, but Villa thought he should
have had a penalty at the other end when Squillaci barged him over. As time
wore on the action became more frenetic, Navas having a shot blocked and
Maresca shooting wide in one prolonged attack, and Villa firing an effort in to
the side netting late on. In the end though honours were shared, and both sides
stay level on points in fifth and fourth spots respectively. |
