Another high scoring game for Villarreal, a 1-4 win at Athletic Bilbao helping them forget the humiliating midweek cup defeat at Poli Ejido. Angel won the ball in midfield and set up Rossi for the first goal midway through the first half, but Etxeberría made it all square with a header from a David López corner four minutes later. Diego López had to keep out a long shot from namesake David López soon afterwards, Amorebieta missed an easy chance, and the two Llorentes (no relation) hit the woodwork at either end as the first half came to a frantic end.

The visitors regained the control after the restart, Pires restoring the lead after a good run by Rossi down the left wing. And six minutes later Cazorla all but wrapped things up with an individualist goal, swathing through the local defence before striking an angled shot low past Gorka. After that the Basque side gave up, and substitute Altidore scored number four less than a minute after coming on. The result keep s Pellegrini's side in second spot, but Athletic drop deeper down into the relegation zone, and could end the weekend at the bottom of the table if Osasuna pick up a point or more in their game on Sunday.
