Sevilla lost ground on the
leaders after they were beaten 3-2 by Valladolid on Sunday evening.
Jesús Navas set up Renato for him to open the scoring for the
Andalusians, and then scored himself with an acrobatic volley from Maresca's
cross to put his side two up with half an hour gone. But Luis Fabiano got
himself sent off for a second bookable offence, and shortly before the break
Jonathan Sesma headed one back for the locals from Mendunjanin's cross.
Five minutes after the
restart the scores were level when half time substitute scored in to an empty
net after Palop was wrong-footed by a deflection. Nedunjanin had a shot blocked
and Palop saved well from Canobbio, but Asenjo had to keep out Navas at the
other end, Pedro López clearing the rebound.
With just after an hour gone
though Canobbio struck home what was to prove the winner, his free kick beating
Palop and entering the net off the crossbar. Pedro León went close with
a free kick after that and Sesma missed an easy chance, but Valladolid had done
enough for three vital points at the start of the run of games against the big
four. Sevilla had lost their third game in a row, and they stay in fifth place
as a result. |
