Atlético Madrid are up to third in the table, level on points with their city rivals Real Madrid, after they beat neighbours Getafe 1-2. Maniche went close with a couple of efforts before he had to go off injured, and David Cortés tested Leo Franco at the other end with a long shot. But midway through the first half Sinama-Pongolle put the visitors ahead with a well taken goal, controlling a long ball from Ujfalusi before beating Licht and shooting under the keeper.

Leo Franco was in action again either side of half time to keep out Guerrón and Casquero, and Jacobo had to be on his toes to save a Pería free kick. With a quarter of an hour to go Getafe equalised, Albín looping a header over the keeper from Granero's corner. But six minutes later Maxi got free on the right, and with Sinama-Pongolle closing in Cortés turned the ball past his own keeper. Atlético's good start to the season continues, and this year they must be considered to be one of the title favourites.
