Villarreal stay in the Champions League spots, level on points with leaders Valencia, after coming from behind to beat Numancia 1-2. Pellegrini's side got off to as good start, Guille Franco in particular going close a couple of times. But on the stroke of half time Gorka Brit headed the locals in to the lead from Barkero's free kick, referee Undiano Mallenco waving away appeals for offside.

Brit fired a long shot over the bar soon after the restart, but a couple of minutes later Cazorla connected with a Pires cross to equalise. Franco headed wide and Llorente struck a shot on the turn just wide of the post, and Cazorla brought a good save out of Juan Pablo. Moreno volleyed a shot just wide at the other end, but soon afterwards Llorente drilled home the winner after good work by Cazorla and Nihat, who was making his first appearance of the season after recovering from an injury.
