Four matches in the second
division on Saturday, although none involved the top sides.
Gimnàstic beat Racing Ferrol 0-2 to move above the
Galicians to seventh, another defeat for the Galicians who have not won at home
in over two months. Jandro and Maldonado went close to scoring for the visitors
early on, and only Jonathan Pereira replied for the home side. But Oscar
Arpón put the Catalans ahead with an angled shot following a corner in
the opening minutes of the second half which Manuel turned in to his own net,
and Miku beat Queco Piña again a few minutes later after Jandro set him
up for Nàstic's second.
Sixth placed
Córdoba missed out on a chance to catch up with the leaders after
losing 2-1 to Eibar, their first defeat in nine games. After three games
without a win the Basque side started strongly, hitting the woodwork before
Goiria put them ahead from the penalty spot on the half hour mark after Pierini
fouled Codina. Javi Moreno missed an easy chance after the restart, but Goiria
got his second of the night soon afterwards after picking up a pass from Insa.
And although Asen got one back with a long shot over the head of Cuéllar
after a poor clearance by the keeper, it was not enough to change the result.
Castellón and
Hércules stay in the top half of the table after drawing 0-0, a
game in which keepers Carlos Sánchez and Unai Alba were the best players
on either side. Alba saved a Mario Rosas penalty midway through the first half
after Nakor was fouled in the area, and after the break Sánchez kept out
an effort from César, who also hit the bar later on. Mario was
eventually sent off for a second bookable offence, and in the end both sides
settled for a point.
Later in the evening
Salamanca moved away from the danger zone with a 1-2 win against bottom
club Las Palmas. All the goals came after the break, with Isaac putting
the visitors ahead after Zé Tó set him up. Juanma headed the
equaliser just four minutes later from a Trashorras free kick, but Quique
Martín restored the lead soon afterwards, and the locals had to play the
last twenty minutes with ten men after substitute Fukuda limped off just ten
minutes after coming on with all three changes already made. (10.11.07)
Málaga are
back at the top of the second division after beating third placed Sporting
Gijón 0-1 on Sunday lunchtime. Both sides had chances early on, with
Michel shooting over the top and Rosario having a penalty appeal turned down,
and in the twentieth minute Baha turned in Hidalgo's cross from close range to
put the visitors ahead. Sporting tried everything after that, Diego Castro and
Barral going close before the break and Michel heading against the bar after
the restart, but they were unable to avoid a third defeat in a row which left
them out of the promotion spots by the end of the weekend. (11.11.07)
Sevilla
Atlético are the new third placed side after the youngsters beat
second placed Numancia 0-1 later in the day. Sevilla C team coach
Fermín Galeote took over from Manuel Jiménez after he was
promoted to the first team, but he saw his side forced back early on, with Brit
and Carmelo going close and Bolo heading against the bar. The Andalusians had a
chance to go ahead after the restart when they were awarded a penalty for a
foul on Juan Pablo, but Jacobo saved Pablo Sánchez's spot kick. However
ten minutes later substitute Salva Sevilla picked up a rebound to dribble round
the keeper and score to take his side up into the promotion spots for the first
time.
Elche are only two
points behind them though after a 3-1 win over Tenerife. "Chino" Luna
gave the locals the lead after a quick breakaway with half an hour gone, and
Víctor headed the second early in the second half from a Belvis
cross.Belvis himself got the third soon afterwards and Miguel had a couple of
chances to increase the scoreline before N'Diaye's got a late consolation, his
shot taking a deflection off a defender and rolling in slowly off the post.
All eyes were on the game
between former first division sides Real Sociedad and Celta,
where honours were shared in a 1-1 draw which leaves both clubs in mid-table.
The Galicians were the happier of the two though after keeper Pinto was sent
off in the second minute for bringing down Larrea in the area, Gerardo firing
the resulting penalty kick against the bar. Víctor López headed
the Basque side in front after Carlos Martínez knocked on a corner
midway through the first half, but Jorge equalised soon afterwards with a shot
from the edge of the area.
Two other pre-season
promotion favourites Albacete and Cádiz are even worse
off, although Cádiz climb away from the danger zone after a 0-1 victory
in the Carlos Belmonte stadium. Albacete however drop to next to bottom after
the two teams below them both won. Lucas Lobos got the only goal of the game
with a well struck free kick twenty minutes from the end.
Xerez's new coach
Casuco got off to a good start with a 2-1 victory over Granada 74, a
result which takes the Andalusians to within a point of escaping the drop zone.
Michel picked up a pass from Pedro Rios to open the scoring for the locals in
the eleventh minute, and although Luque equalised from the penalty spot a few
minutes later after Mendoza fouled Guerra, Yordi re-established the lead on the
stroke of half time. This was Xerez's first home win of the season.
Elsewhere Poli
Ejido's old coach Luis César earned himself a respite after his side
beat Alavés 1-0 to move to within a point of their opponents.
Samuel missed an early penalty for the visitors, but Castell put the home side
in front midway through the first half after Toedtli headed on a free kick.
Toni Moral hit the bar for the Basque side late on, but this was not their
night and they ended the weekend just a place outside the bottom
four.(11.11.07) |
