Second Division A - Day 7

Málaga's great start to the season continues, and they extended their winning run to seven games after beating Las Palmas 2-0. The opening minutes though belonged to the Canary Islanders, Goitia doing well to save from Marcos Márquez. But Peragón went close before the break, and just a minute after the restart Baha picked up a pass from Jesús Gámez to score. After that Iván Rosado came on for Peragón and wasted two or three chances before finally beating keeper Nacho González at the second attempt in injury time. The result leaves Las Palmas further down in the drop zone.

Sporting Gijón stay in second place though after a late 2-3 victory at Hércules. The Asturians took the lead in the ninth minute when Michel got on the end of a corner to beat Prats, and referee Pérez Montero turned down a possible penalty on Tote and ruled out a goal by Sergio for a previous foul a few minutes later. Montenegro equalised from a well struck free kick, but Pedro restored the lead for the visitors before the break. Five minutes in to the second half Tote made it all square again after Blas Pérez headed on a corner, and the referee featured again, disallowing two more goals from local defender Diego Jaume and sending off Sporting's Sastre. With five minutes to go though Canella lifted the ball over Prats to ensure the three points for his side.

Real Sociedad are up to fifth pending Sunday's games after a 1-0 win over bottom club Albacete. Honours were shared in the first half, Mainz almost scoring for the visitors in the third minute and Garitano going close at the other end later on. But Garitano volleyed home a spectacular winner with just under an hour gone, and when Xavi Jiménez was sent off with a few minutes to go for bringing down an attacker it was all over. Real have now picked up ten points from their last four games, whereas their rivals only have one point to their name all season.

Celta moved up into the top half of the table after beating Xerez 3-1. Canobbio fired the Galicians into the lead on the half hour mark, and Antonio Nuñez hit the post before Yordi connected with Michel's cross to equalise shortly before the break. Okkas and Diego Costa both had goals disallowed after the restart, but Costa put the locals back in front with ten minutes to go after Perera and Canobbio combined to set him up, and Mario Suárez added a third from a long way out to hand the three points to Hristo Stoichkov's side. Both teams ended with ten men though when Antoñito and Costa were sent off near the end.

The other two matches on Saturday evening ended all square, with Sevilla Atlético (playing their first match in their new "ciudad deportiva" stadium) coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Poli Ejido. Both keepers were in action before Moreno opened the scoring midway through the first half, and Gerardo put the visitors two up just a couple of minutes in to the second half. But Juanjo got one back a quarter of an hour later, and Armenteros hit the post a couple of minutes later. Mario Bermejo could have wrapped things up when he missed a penalty, and the hosts saved a point when Juan Pablo beat Alvaro Iglesias with ten minutes or so to go.

Granada 74 and Castellón cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw, with both goals coming in the last five minutes. There were few chances for most of the game, keepers Jaime and Carlos Sánchez only called upon to keep out Oberman and Aranda respectively. But substitute Tabares came on to put the vicitors ahead with five minutes to go, and the home side responded with a last minute strike from Francisco. (06.10.07)

Numancia consolidated third spot with a 1-3 win against fourth placed Racing Ferrol on Sunday lunchtime. Local keeper Queco Piña had to make three or four saves before Del Pino took advantage of slack defending to beat him for the first time. And with ten minutes to go to the interval Moreno fired home a free kick for his side's second. Racing coach Juan Viera switched things around at the break, and Lamatina got one back following Jaime Junior's free kick early in the second half. But Piña brought down Moreno in the area with twenty minutes to go, and the midfielder wrapped things up from the penalty spot. (07.10.07)

Gimnàstic lost further ground on the leaders after they were beaten 1-2 later in the evening by Elche, who move above them in the table as a result. David Vidal's side took the lead in the tenth minute when Pere Martí took advantage of a poor clearance by Roberto to win the ball off Abel and score. And with half an hour gone Michel got on the end of Martí's free kick to add a second. Nàstic got one back a couple of minutes later, Alvaro Rubio beating Caballero after good work by Jandro, but despite efforts in the second half by Jandro, Abel and Maldonado they were unable to get the equaliser they were looking for.

Cádiz also drop down the table to fifteenth after losing 1-2 against Eibar, a third defeat in a row which leaves coach García Remón on a tightrope. The locals took the lead shortly before half time when Cristian's free kick deflected in off Alaña. But five minutes after the interval for the Basque side drew level with a Goiria penalty after Gonzalo Vicente brought down Codina. The home side were left with ten men when Lobos was shown a straight red with five minutes to go, and a couple of minutes later Yagüe got on the end of Carmelo's free kick to head the winner.

Eibar's neighbours Alavés also won in the last minute, Aganzo's goal from Toni Moral's cross giving them a 2-3 victory at Salamanca. It was their first win of the season, and they move above their opponents out of the relegation spots. The locals took an early lead, David Rodríguez beating Bernardo after Dañobeitia had headed the ball on. Aganzo levelled the scores with a twice taken penalty after the ex Racing striker was fouled by Vasco Fernandes, but midway through the first half Jorge Alonso put the hosts back in front with a well taken free kick. Pablo Casar equalised for the second time though, heading home a corner a quarter of an hour from the end, and after Dani López was sent off for a second bookable offence, Aganzo got that late winner.

Finally Tenerife and Córdoba drew 0-0 in the last game of the evening, leaving the Andalusians a point ahead of their hosts in mid-table. José Luis Oltra's side had the better of the first half, with Julio Iglesias saving from Santos, Longás wasting an easy chance and Omar hitting the woodwork. But the visitors could have taken the three points in the second half, Juan Pablo having to keep out Arteaga and Cristian Alvarez, and Javi Moreno going close. With ten minutes to go though Aurelio was sent off for a second bookable offence, and both sides settled for a point. (07.10.07)
