Celebrations at the Calderón stadium, where Atlético Madrid made sure of a place in the Champions League for the first time in twelve years after beating Deportivo 1-0. Their long season has taken it's toll, but they had enough energy left to win thanks to a strike from Diego Forlán just before the interval.

Javier Aguirre's side had dominated the match up to that point without creating too many clear cut chances, but Agüero brought a good save out of Aouate after the restart, and had another effort cleared from in front of goal by De Guzman with the keeper beaten.

Depor themselves didn't have a shot at goal until Leo Franco turned an effort from Riki around the post late on, but they could have saved a point when Coloccini hit the post near the end. Despite the defeat however they are still favourites to make it to the Intertoto Cup, and the Gailicians could even enter the UEFA Cup as Spain's cleanest side in UEFA's draw for the last fair-play spot next Tuesday.
