Mallorca kept up alive their
hopes of a UEFA Cup spot after a late 2-1 victory over Osasuna, and they are
now only three points behind sixth placed Racing in the table. Ricardo tipped
an early effort from Nunes over for a corner, and Moyà did likewise from
Juanfran at the other end before La Liga's top scorer Güiza opened the
scoring for the locals on the half hour mark.
Moyà had to be at his
best to keep out an Astudillo header just before the break, and Arango had a
strike ruled out for a previous foul after the restart. Substitute Portillo
appeared to have saved a vital point for the visitors when he turned in
Juanfran's cross, but soon afterwards he got himself sent off for a late tackle
on Monreal.
Osasuna's luck ran out after
that though, referee Velasco Carballo turning down a penalty claim when Borja
Valero clearly blocked a shot with his arm. Play went up the other end, and
with Juanfran lying injured and the visitors appealing for the ball to be put
out of play, Valero crossed in for Trejo to score the winner. The game ended in
a minor brawl as a result, but Osasuna had lost again and they stay in the
bottom three as a result. |
