Valladolid moved four points
above the drop zone after a last minute 1-0 win over Almería. With a
difficult calendar coming up, Mendilibar's side needed to win this match, and
they started well. Negredo had to head a Víctor corner from under the
bar, and Víctor also had a penalty saved by Diego Alves after Bruno
fouled Marcos later in the first half.
The locals kept up the
pressure after the restart, Víctor brushing the outside of the post with
a free kick and Jonathan Sesma having a shot deflected just past the post by a
defender. The visitors only troubled Asenjo a couple of times with efforts by
Negredo and Crusat. But the game appeared to be heading for a draw until Alves
punched out a Rubio free kick in injury time, and Sesma collected the rebound
and fired a shot through a crowded goalmouth to win the match.
