Murcia look doomed after they lost 1-4 to Mallorca, and they ended the weekend eight points away from safety. Dani Güiza scored a hat-trick to break the Balearic Island club's first division scoring record, the first in only the eighth minute when he steered a header past Carini from Webó's lifted cross. The spanish international striker then set up Arango for the second a few minutes later, and got his own second of the night just a minute after the restart following another assist from Webó.

Javier Clemente's side didn't give up straight away though, Moyà having to make a couple of saves from Iván Alonso and Baiano having a goal disallowed for offside. But Güiza completed his hat-trick four minutes from the end with a chip over the head of the keeper, and Baiano's headed goal from Abel's cross was scant consolation for the desolate fans. The victory takes Mallorca safely up to mid-table.
