Espanyol are back into the European places after coming from behind to beat Mallorca 2-1, a result which ended Gregorio Manzano's side's unbeaten run since the midway point of the season. Güiza picked up a headed pass from Arango to beat Lafuente and put the visitors ahead with just over ten minutes gone. And only a brilliant save by Lafuente from a Jonás Gutiérrez header prevented the Islanders from going further ahead before half time.

Referee Paradas Romero turned down penalty appeals by the locals either side of half time for fouls on Luis García and Riera, and a possible hand ball by Ramis. Güiza missed another chance to extend the lead and got himself injured into the bargain, but soon afterwards Espanyol did get the penalty they wanted after Héctor brought down Luis García, the Spanish international forward converting the kick himself.

Valdo brought a good save out of Moyà, but Lafuente was in action again to get a hand to Arango's header and push it over the bar. With two minutes to go though Mallorca thought that play should have been stopped when Torrejón held back Arango as he advanced on goal, but Paradas waved play on and Angel crossed in for Luis García to head home the winner. Ballesteros and two members of the coaching staff were shown red cards in the ensuing protests, but the result stood and Espanyol had beaten their opponents in Montjuic for the seventh year running.
