Racing Santander moved back up to seventh after a 1-0 victory over Almería, putting an end to the visitors' run of eight games without defeat. Diego Alves has been one of the reasons the Andalusians had been doing so well this season, the keeper having set a season's best record after six clean sheets in a row. And once again he was on top form as the locals dominated the first half, with saves from Jorge López and Oscar Serrano. Tchité and Serrano also failed to convert a couple of good chances, and the visitors were thankful to hear the half time whistle with the scoreboard unmoved.

Acasiete headed a corner over the top in a rare Almería attack after the restart, but soon after wards Tchité ran on to a long ball to finally beat Alves. The keeper's unbeaten record ended after 678 minutes, but he was still called upon to make a couple of top class saves from Smolarek a few minutes later. Unai Emery's side ended with nine men after Domingo Cisma and new signing Paunovic were both sent off for second bookable offences later on, but even so José Ortíz did have a chance to equalise when he headed wide in the final minutes. Racing had their first win since the midway point of the season though, and they move back above their opponents in the table.
