Villarreal consolidated
third place after coming from behind to beat Athletic Bilbao 1-2. Llorente put
the Basque side in front when he turned in Susaeta's cross in only the fourth
minute. And they could have gone further ahead when Diego López tipped
Susaeta's deflected shot over the bar, and Amorebieta volleyed over from the
resulting corner.
The visitors created a
couple of good chances either side of half time though from Nihat's free kicks,
Godín heading the first just wide and Aramando saving the second. And
twenty minutes in to the second half Guille Franco (who was lucky still to be
on the park after being let off a second booking) controlled Angel's cross and
struck an angled shot past the keeper.
The game appeared to be
heading for a draw, but with eight minutes to go Capdevila's shot deflected off
the foot of Javi Martínez to give Villarreal the three points. It was
another blow for Caparrós's side who have only won three times in the
San Mamés stadium all season, and they ended the weekend only two points
off the relegation spots. |
