Fifth placed Espanyol were
beaten 2-4 by a Sevilla side who move up above Racing Santander into the top
six as a result. Valverde's team have been going through a small crisis
recently, having only picked up three points in their last five games, and they
went two down early on once again. And once again it was Sevilla's dynamic duo
who did the damage, Luis Fabiano turning in Kanouté's cross to open the
scoring in the sixth minute, and then returned the favour for Kanouté to
notch up the second just five minutes later.
Espanyol had not got off to
a bad start though, with Luis García, riera and Ewerthon all going close
before Luis Fabiano's goal, and Luis García got one back for them before
the break after Zabaleta set him up. But the full back was sent off for a
second bookable offence after the restart, and Poulsen got a third for the
visitors soon afterwards with a shot from outside of the area which took a
deflection off a defender to wrong-foot Kameni.
Still the locals didn't give
up, and substitute Corominas scored a spectacular volley after Palop could only
push out a corner two minutes later. But two minutes after that Diego Capel
wrapped things up after getting on the end of a Jesús Navas cross, and
although Jonathan Soriano did go close with a late header it was already too
late. |
