Valencia moved to within a
point of the top six after beating Betis 3-1 in the last match on Sunday.
Ronald Koeman's side had not scored in almost seven hours at the Mestalla
stadium, but David Villa put them ahead early on after picking up a pass from
Moretti, referee Daudén Ibáñez waving away appeals for
offside.
Silva added a second twelve
minutes later, Daudén failing to note that Villa handled in the build
up, and Edu headed one back two minutes in to the second half from Caffa's long
free kick, the referee and his linesman again not picking up a clear offside.
Banega brought a couple of
good saves out of Ricardo after that, but Betis had a penalty appeal turned
down and Juanito headed against the crossbar soon afterwards. But with the game
coming to an end Villa wrapped things up with his second of the night, his well
struck free kick finding the top corner of the net. Valencia were back, and
they have the European spots in their sights. |
