A magnificent performance by Real Madrid on Sunday, Bernd Schuster's side hammering Valladolid 7-0 to move eight points clear at the top of the table. Guti was undoubtedly the star of the match with a hand in virtually all the goals, beginning with an assist for Baptista to start things off in the eighth minute. Casillas had to make a couple of saves, in particular from Llorente. But then followed four goals in the quarter hour leading up to half time, Raúl and Robben both latching on to passes from Guti to score. Raúl converted a penalty after Sergio Asenjo brought down Baptista, and Guti himself got the fifth after running on to a pass from Drenthe, who had replaced the injured Robinho early on.

Madrid had scored virtually every time they got a shot on target, but Asenjo finally stopped Baptista as he advanced on goal early in the second half. Soon afterwards though Guti got his second of the night, a shot in off the near post after Robben laid the ball back. Casillas was not to be denied his moment of glory, the keeper pushing a shot from Llorente onto the bar, but Guti popped up again soon afterwards to set up Drenthe for the seventh with a headed pass. Madrid were on song, and it si difficult to see who can stop them retaining the title on this form.
