Espanyol moved back up to
third in the table after a 0-1 victory at Getafe late on Sunday evening.
Valverde opted to leave new signing Ewerthon on the bench and play Jonathan
Soriano up front in place of the injured Tamudo. And the young striker staked
his claim for a place when he turned in Rufete's cross with just over a quarter
of an hour gone to open the scoring.
Pato tipped a shot from
Valdo onto the bar and over a few minutes later, and a shot from Rufete was
deflected for a corner. But after that the home side recovered. Casilla saving
from De la Red and Manu heading wide before the break.
Getafe continued to push for
the equaliser after the restart, and it was difficult to see how they didn't
score when Casilla pushed a shot from Gavilán onto the bar and De la Red
and Pablo both had follow up shots blocked. Casilla pushed another effort on to
the bar soon afterwards, and Gavilán had a penalty appeal turned down.
But Espanyol had the victory, putting an end to a run of three defeats in a
row. |
