Oliveira. First time volley wide of Armando from Diego Milito cross.
Zaragoza recorded their
first win under new coach Javier Irureta, a 1-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao
taking them back up to the top half of the table. Oliveira volleyed a Diego
Milito cross past new keeper Armando for the only goal of the game with just
under half an hour on the clock, virtually the first shot by either side up to
that point. Armando did well to keep out a deflected shot from Diogo after
that, and the visiting defence cleared a dangerous cross from Diego Milito
before the break.
Just a couple of minutes
after the restart Armando got enough on Milito's shot to tip it on to the bar,
and Sergio García also rattled the woodwork with an angled shot,
Oliveira failing to turn in the rebound. César was also called upon
though to keep out Yeste and Aitor Ramos, and the Basque side could have saved
a point right up until the final minutes, when Aitor Ocio got himself sent off
for the third time this season after picking up two bookings in succession for
a foul on Ayala and a too vehement protest. Athletic ended the weekend though
just three spots outside of the drop zone, only ahead of Osasuna, Deportivo and
Murcia on goal difference. |
