With most of the sides above
them faltering, Sevilla closed up on the European spots with a 1-2 win at
neighbours Recreativo, who themselves drop further down into the relegation
spots. Top scorer Luis Fabiano was the man to do the damage with two goals, the
first an individualist effort on the stroke of half time after Daniel Alves set
him up, and the second with a header from an Alves corner.
Although the visitors looked
the better side early on, they were put at a disadvantage when Mosquera was
sent off for a second bookable offence five minutes before half time.
Sinama-Pongolle went close a couple of times, even breaking the side netting
with one shot, but after Luis Fabiano's goal Renato could have increased the
lead with a header against the post.
Víctor Muñoz
brought on Ersen Martin for his long awaited debut, but after he and Javi
Guerrero both went close, the Turkish striker blotted his copy book after
getting sent off for a late tackle on Poulsen. Then came Luis Fabiano's second,
and although Beto headed one back from a Martins free kick it was too late to
change the result. The defeat cost the head of Muñoz, who was fired by
Recre after the match. |
