Atlético Madrid were
beaten 1-0 by Mallorca on Sunday evening, although results elsewhere means they
hang on to fourth spot. With an intensive program of games, Javier Aguirre
rested Agüero and gave a rare start to Mista. But although they dominated
the early minutes they were unable to create many chances, the best a shot from
Forlán which Moyà saved without too many problems, and another
effort from Reyes over the top.
The locals went ahead though
midway through the first half when Arango beat Abbiati after the keeper could
only parry a shot from Fernando Navarro. Jonás and Arango could have
increased the lead before the break, and Güiza brought a good save out of
Abbiati soon after the restart. Atlético did carve out a couple more
chances, Forlán in particular shooting over the bar, but their challenge
ended when Reyes got himself sent off for a second bookable offence later on.
