Only one match on Saturday
night, with Sevilla beating Osasuna 2-1 to move up to seventh spot pending
Sunday's games. The match ended in turmoil though after referee Iturralde
González awarded a controversial injury time penalty to the locals, and
the police had to separate players and staff at the end.
Sevilla had the better of
the first half, with Alves shooting wide and Luis Fabiano bringing a good save
out of Ricardo. However Monreal could have given the visitors the lead with a
long free kick which hit the foot of the far post.
Either side of half time
Ricardo was called upon to keep out Luis Fabiano and Jesús Navas, but
ten minutes in to the second half Poulsen gave the Andalusians the lead when he
got ahead of the keeper to turn Chevantón's free kick into the net.
However Kike Sola equalised with an individualist goal a few minutes later,
turning past Poulsen and Mosquero before firing a shot wide of De Sanctis.
Dady hit the bar again and
Alves and Luis Fabiano both tried their luck, and Osasuna were left with ten
men when Josetxo picked up a second booking. And the game appeared to be
heading for a draw when Javi García dived low to clear at the feet of
Chevantón, Iturralde surprising everyone pointing at the spot and
showing a second yellow card to the midfielder after the ball rolled against
his arm whilst on the floor.
Luis Fabiano stepped up to
drive home the resulting penalty, but not for the first time the match between
these two sides ended with embarrasing scenes as players and coaching staff
jostled each other on the pitch. Iturralde and his infamous linesman Rafa
Guerrero beat a hasty retreat. |
