Racing Santander kept up their good start to the season, a 0-1 victory at Deportivo taking them to within a point of the European spots. Toño was the star of the night, with a string of first class saves throughout a match which the Galicians dominated, but were unable to find the target. The visiting keeper stopped efforts from Verdú and Cristian before the break, and Verdú and Xisco in particular also went close. Racing's first effort at goal came when Oscar Serrano shot wide soon after the restart, but Toño was called upon again to make important saves from Xisco and Guardado.

Almost immediately though play went up the other end, and Tchité got on the end of a Munitis cross to poke a shot past Dudu Aouate and put the Cantabrians ahead. After that Lotina threw on all his fire power, but Toño and his back four held fast to defend the result. It was a bitter blow for Depor, who have only picked up four points at home all season, and their frustrations were apparent when Filipe was sent off for swearing at an opponent who he had felled seconds earlier.
