A late win for Betis against
Zaragoza, thanks mainly to two goals from substitute Pavone, gave the
Andalusians three vital points and probably saved the head of coach
Héctor Cúper into the bargain. It was a dull affair though, and
the only thing the local fans had to distract their attention from their
protests at the directors' box was a possible penalty when the ball hit Ayala
on the hands at close range. And with ten minutes to go to half time the unrest
increased when D'Alessandro curled a free kick past Ricardo to put the visitors
ahead.
Somoza, Caffa, Xisco and
Sobis all tried their luck after that, but as time wore on it appeared that
Víctor Fernández's side had the match under control. However with
ten minutes to go Edu slipped the ball through for Pavone to lift a shot past
the advancing César, and with injury time looming the Argentinian
striker got his second of the night after Edu headed Xisco's cross back across
goal. It was enough to give his side their second win of the season, and they
move to within a point of escaping the drop zone. Cúper has a few more
days to try and sort things out. |
