Atlético Madrid drop
down a place to sixth after they were held to a 0-0 draw at Almería.
They have Leo Franco and the goal-posts to thank for saving a point though
after the home side dominated for much of the match. Negredo missed a couple of
early chances, and the visiting keeper stopped a first half penalty from Felipe
Melo and the two follow up shots from Negredo and Uche after Seitaridis had
brought down Crusat on the half hour mark. And a couple of minutes later Uche
fired a shot against the crossbar with the keeper beaten.
Atlético's only
efforts at goal in the first half had been a Maxi shot which Cobeño
dealt with capably, and a goal by Agüero which was ruled out for offside.
And the match continued in the same vein after the restart, Negredo's shot
being deflected onto the post by Pablo, and a defender blocking Uche's follow
up. Even so the visitors could have snatched away the three points when Antonio
López hit the bar with a free kick in injury time, but that would have
been too much on a night when Atleti's goal machine was missing in action.
