A week is a long time in
football they say, but sometimes even three days can be an eternity! Real
Madrid were brought back to Earth after the thrashing of Valencia midweek,
Bernd Schuster's side losing 2-0 at Sevilla on Saturday evening.
Both goals came in a three
minute period midway through the first half, Keita opening the scoring with a
cracking shot from outside of the area and Luis Fabiano adding the second after
Casillas could only parry an effort from Kanouté.
Things could have been worse
had referee Alvarez Izquierdo not turned down a penalty appeal by Diarra on
Navas before the break, but the referee upset local coach Bernd Schuster when
he sent off ex Sevilla fullback Sergio Ramos for a second bookable offence just
five minutes in to the second half.
After that Sevilla could
have built on their lead, with Luis Fabiano missing a sitter and Keita shooting
just wide. Raúl had a penalty appeal turned down himself, but otherwise
Palop had the most quiet of nights, and Madrid fell to only their second defeat
of the season. |
