Sevilla's new manager Manolo
Jiménez got off to a good start with a 3-0 win over Valencia in the last
game on Sunday, a result which signalled the end for his opposite number Quique
Flores. The B team coach took over after Juande Ramos resigned to join Spurs
mid-week, and he saw Kanouté open the scoring in the ninth minute after
Raúl Albiol could only turn Luis Fabiano's cross into his path.
After that it was all
Sevilla, with Navas and Poulsen going close, Hildebrand saving from Keita and
Poulsen heading into the net only to see the strike ruled out for offside.
Alexis headed wide a couple of minutes after the restart in Valencia's first
real attack, but Kanouté and Diego Capel could both have added to the
lead as the second half wore on.
With twenty minutes or so to
go Sevilla did get the goal they were looking for, Poulsen firing an angled
shot past Hildebrand after the defence failed to clear a corner. Luis Fabiano,
Kanouté and Daniel Alvés all kept up the pressure, and four
minutes from the end Luis Fabiano made it three after a quick passing move
between Alvés and Renato. It was all too much for the Valencia board,
who the following day decided to terminate Quique's contract and look for a new
manager. |
