Almería are holding
their own in the top flight this season, and they ended the weekend in the top
half of the table after a 2-0 win over Osasuna. Unai Emery's side had a couple
of chances before the break, efforts Corona and Negredo going wide and Negredo
having a penalty appeal turned down. But the turning point of the game came
five minutes in to the second half when visiting keeper Elía was sent
off for pulling down Negredo, a decision which referee Ontanaya L-opez only
gave two minutes later at the instance of his linesman.
Felipe Melo converted the
resulting penalty past substitute keeper Andrés (who was only on the
bench as Ricardo was suspended), and Negredo lobbed the keeper a few minutes
later for his side's second. Juanfran wasted a couple of chances to get one
back, virtually his team's only efforts at goal, and Melo and Corona both tried
their luck at the other end. But the night belonged to Almería, and at
last their fans were able to celebrate the newly promoted club's first home win
of the season. |
